Cold Hard Fact #5: One little word can make the difference between 10% conversion and 50% conversion on your landing pages.
Your Big “Uh-Oh”: If you’re don’t have a way to figure out what word that is, you’re going to waste a LOT of time and lose a LOT of sales.
How To Fix This Profit-Sucking Problem
If you’ve never done split testing before, then don’t kick yourself (yet) - until the other day, neither did I. I threw up my landing pages and checked how well they converted, but didn’t do the split testing deal. For some reason, I thought it would be an ordeal to set it up and manage it.
Man, oh man, I was wrong.
Enter The Dragon
So I get an email from one of my favorite coaching clients, Johnny Meehan (who did project management for multi-millionaire Tellman Knudson’s marketing machine), and he says this:
YOU ARE INSANE IF YOU ARE NOT DOING SPLIT TESTING, AND I WILL PERSONALLY HUNT YOU DOWN NOW.
Well, actually he just told me it was a BAD THING. I said, “Ain’t split testing a lot of work?” And he said “Nuh-uh,” and pointed me to my new best friend, HyperTracker (made by the people who handle my GetResponse mailing list).
30 minutes later, I was signed up and ready to rock with a simple split test - two landing pages on my 30hoursaday time management website. All I had to do was this (in Johnny’s words):
- Create new campaign
- Fill out campaign name, id, etc.
- Set count clicks to always (otherwise it tends to miss people)
- Enter your target URLs (these are the links to the pages you are testing), one per line
- Set the tracking link that is generated by HyperTracker as a redirect in place of your current sales or squeeze page
- Click on the “integration” link in HyperTracker, and get the proper code to put on your thank-you page(s)
- Test the system, and make sure it’s getting tracked in HyperTracker properly
BWU-HA-HA-HA
So I launch a promotion with two split test pages - one with my lovingly-crafted headline, and one with a headline that I just “wonder” if it would do better … and a promotion is lost.
A few hours later I log into HyperTracker and see that the new headline is converting 50% more than the one I “loved” … and I kick myself, wishing I had done this last month when I had a traffic surge. But now I know, and I won’t be kicking myself any more. Split testing is easy - as long as you have an automated powerhouse doing all the work for you.
Are you doing split testing with an automated system? If you are, rock on.
If you’re not, then now is the time to kick yourself. Head on over to HyperTracker and get your free 14-day trial today. Then you can stop kicking yourself, and start kicking @$$.
